Virtus Metabolic Monitor ECMO is Unique

Patients receiving both ventilatory support and ECMO support, the total oxygen consumption (V̇O₂) and carbon dioxide production (V̇CO₂) – gas exchange, and hence the Resting Energy Expenditure (REE), can be difficult to assess, since gas exchange takes place both across the lungs and the ECMO membrane oxygenator.

With Virtus Metabolic Monitor ECMO you can easily assess these parameters, since the V̇O₂ and V̇CO₂ measurement at the lung is performed as in any other patient on ventilatory support, and the V̇O₂ and V̇CO₂ measurement is performed at the membrane lung which is taken from either the gas outlet and/or the gas inlet of the ECMO membrane oxygenator, thereby calculating the total REE for the patient.

With Virtus Metabolic Monitor ECMO you can assess these parameters simultaneously and easily, which minimizes the intervention by the healthcare personnel.

Virtus Metabolic Monitor ECMO allows continuous and non-invasive measurement of oxygen consumption (V̇O₂) and carbon dioxide production (V̇CO₂), plus calculation of respiratory quotient (RQ) and energy expenditure (EE) for patients receiving both ventilatory support and ECMO support.

Supports your ECMO Weaning Process

 In addition to providing REE / RQ information for ECMO patients, Virtus Metabolic Monitor ECMO also has ”focus view function”, which provides the user with large reading of V̇O₂ and V̇CO₂ which is advantageous when optimizing ECMO settings for weaning purposes.

By pressing and holding the finger on top of the screen, the screen toggles between Normal view and Focus View.

This will allow for easy reading of the VO2 and VCO2 measurements and support the ECMO weaning process
